It feels good to know that tomorrow, when I wake up, I can diverge from the daily routine of the last few months. I won’t be sitting at the desk in my room, a cup of coffee and a text editor being my only company. I won’t ask myself the question whether the last three sentences are good enough. And most certainly, I won’t worry which chapters still require some refinement. Why is that?, you ask.

Well, I handed in my master’s thesis today. Consequently, this new year’s eve does not only represent the end of 2011, but also the end of my studies of Information Systems at the Otto-Friedrich-University of Bamberg. I still have to defend my thesis in a colloquium on January 18th and could fail in theory, yet it feels as if everything were already over.

The chapter Life and Studies in Bamberg closes. A few more pages, a few more paragraphs and there will be a new heading. What will it be?

I am excited to find out.

Anrechnung

Mittlerweile habe ich mich um die Anrechnung der von mir erbrachten Leistungen gekümmert und meine Learning Agreements und Transskripte beim Prüfungsausschuss Wirtschaftsinformatik eingereicht. Die Universität Bamberg hat mich sehr, sehr positiv überrascht: in weniger als 24h wurde mir ein Anerkennungsbescheid ausgestellt. Das ist Service!
Ich fiel aus allen Wolken als ich eher routinemäßig ins FlexNow schaute und feststellte, dass jede Prüfung bereits eingetragen und benotet ist. An dieser Stelle möchte ich ein ganz großes Lob an Professor Sinz und sein Team, insbesondere Beate Hartmann und Marion Eckert, aussprechen.

Für Studenten aus Bamberg, die ein Studium am ITT in Erwägung ziehen, könnten die nachfolgenden Details von Interesse sein.

Für jeden meiner Kurse hatte ich im Vorfeld ein Learning Agreement abgeschlossen. Das bedeutet, dass ausnahmslos alle von mir in Dublin erbrachten Leistungen Bestandteil meines Bamberger Bachelor-Abschlusses sind. Wermutstropfen: die Bamberger VWL-Veranstaltung hat einen Umfang von 6 ECTS, in Irland musste ich zwei Veranstaltungen im Umfang von insgesamt 10 ECTS besuchen. Dies ist darin begründet, dass am ITT Mikro- und Makroökonomie zwei separate Veranstaltungen sind und Inhalte aus beiden Themengebieten für das Ersetzen der Bamberger Veranstaltung Einführung in die VWL benötigt werden.

Die Prüfungsergebnisse werden von der Uni Bamberg nach folgendem Schlüssel ins heimische System übertragen:

…	…

Zu Bedenken ist, dass es am ITT die Notenstufen A+ und A- nicht gibt. Ich denke, dass das relativ fair ist.

Yesterday, there was a belated birthday party. Isa and Isa, Carmen and Julia, a friend of her from Valencia, Oscar and I went to in Berta’s flat in order to celebrate her birthday. Having a bit of pity with the only German in a room full of Spaniards, Oscar told me “Felix, you have to learn Spanish. You have one night!”
Anyway, it was great fun. Later on we went to The Mezz where we met Klaus, Stefan and Jeremy and danced to great rock songs (‘Killing in the Name’ and the like) until they closed.

Again, I ask myself why our society tolerates the fact that people, who are not exposed to threats, keep weapons in their homes for their own entertainment. It is bound to go wrong!

Und wieder einmal frage ich mich warum unsere Gesellschaft es hinnimmt, dass Menschen, die nicht akut bedroht sind, Tötungswerkzeuge aus Unterhaltungsgründen zuhause aufbewahren. Es geht schief!

Two British soldiers dead, another two soldiers and two civilians injured. This is the sad balance of last night’s terrorist attack in county Antrim, Northern Ireland. Some people never learn – seriously bad news for Ireland.

Crêpes in the City

Carmen: “Let’s go to the Lemon and take a crêpe!”

Although I heard it so often during the last days, it made me smile and chuckle again and again. But maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, what was it that I wanted to tell you? Ah well, the Spanish girls fell in love with a tiny café: the Lemon. It’s in the city centre, in William Street South (that’s near Grafton Street). On Thursday I went there with Carmen, Isa and Berta and although it was a bit dear for my Continental wallet, I have to admit that it was totally worth it: great coffee, great crêpes.
